Jhenaidah AL activist killed in infighting
Jhenaidah: A local Awami League activist was killed and 20 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups of the ruling party over the upcoming union council election at Choyaile in Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah on Friday morning, reported local news agency.
Police said Awami League-backed chairman candidate Nizamul Goni Litu and Bikash Chandra Biswas, incumbent chairman of Padmakor union council, had been at loggerheads over having nomination to contest the polls, billed for 7 May.
As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of both the groups locked in an altercation at about 7:15 am.
At one stage, they equipped with sharp weapons and sticks attacked each other, leaving 21 people, including Akamir, a supporter of Bikash Chandra, injured.
The injured people were taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Akamir, son of Billat Ali, dead.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
