Govt appoints new envoys to UK, Belgium, Sri Lanka
Dhaka: The government has appointed new High Commissioners to its Missions in the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka while a new Ambassador to Belgium, reports UNB.
The government has made Ismat Jahan, currently serving as Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium and EU, as the country’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. She will replace Md Abdul Hannan.
Md Shahdat Hossain, now serving as Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy, has been appointed the country’s new Ambassador to Belgium. He will replace Ismat Jahan.
Besides, Riaz Hamidullah, presently working as Director General of the Multilateral Economic Affairs Wing in the Foreign Ministry, has been made the country’s next High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. He will replace Tarik Ahsan.
In three media releases on Monday, the Foreign Ministry made the announcement of the new appointments.
In his diplomatic career, Shahdat Hossain served as Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar and the country’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
Beside those assignments, he served in Bangladesh Embassy in Cairo, Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad and New Delhi and Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UN in New York in various capacities.
In her diplomatic career, Ismat Jahan served as the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN in New York and also served as Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands.
She also served in Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva and New York in different capacities.
Obtained MSS in Economics from Dhaka University, Ismat Jahan was elected twice member of the CEDAW Committee.
In his career, Hamidullah served at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York and Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi in different capacities.
He also worked at the Saarc Secretariat as Director.
