Parliamentary body for increasing train fare
Dhaka: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Planning Ministry on Thursday recommended increasing train fare to reduce gradually about Tk 800 crore annual loss of Bangladesh Railway.
The standing committee made the recommendation at its 23rd meeting at the Parliament with committee Chairman Abul Kalam Azad presiding, said an official release.
Standing Committee Member M Tajul Islam and Shamsul Haq Chowdhury attended the meeting.
The meeting also suggested enhancing standard of services and security of passengers of Bangladesh Railway.
The meeting was told that Bangladesh Railway is implementing 39 projects in the fiscal 2015-16.
The standing committee advised the authorities concerned to abide by its suggestions regarding the appointment of directors to different development projects under the planning ministry.
Secretaries and senior officials concerned were present.
