HC releases full verdict in Anwar Chy grenade attack case
Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Thursday released its full verdict in the case of grenade attack on former British high commissioner in Bangladesh Anwar Chowdhury.
High Court released the verdict after Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain signed the 167-page judgment.
‘After releasing of the full verdict, now there is no bar in executing the judgment. If the convicts lodge appeal against the High Court order, the execution process will come to a hold,’ said deputy attorney general Sheikh Md Moniruzzaman.
Earlier on February 11, the High Court in its order upheld sentence of a trial court against all the five accused in the case including death for three Harkat-ul-Jihad (HuJI) leaders.
Three people died and around 50 people were injured including the British envoy in the attack which took place on May 21, 2004 in Sylhet.
A trial court on December 23, 2008, sentenced HuJI leader Mufti Hannan, his cohorts Sharif Shahedul Alam alias Bipul and Delwar Hossain to death in the case. It also sentenced Mohibullah and Abu Jandal to life imprisonment.
