3 held with over 3,000 SIM cards in Mymensingh

Mymensingh: Police arrested three illegal VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) traders from Mymensingh and seized huge VoIP equipment, more than 3,000 re-registered SIM cards of several mobile phone operators, three mobile phone sets and a notepad used for biometric registration from them.

Police said the detainees were taken to Kotwali Model Police station for interrogation. A case will be filed against them after the interrogation.

The detainees are Humayun Kabir, resident of village of Digpait at Madarganj upazila in Jamalpur, Ruhul Amin, a resident of village of Bakurchar, and Jahedul Islam, a resident of Ghatail upazila in Tangail.

The Kotwali Model Police Officer-in-charge Kamrul Islam said being informed that an expatriate of Saudi Arabia, named Suruj Ali, is regulating an illegal VoIP business in the Sankipara area of Mymensingh, police conducted a drive on Suruj Ali’s apartment at about 9:30pm. 

The law enforcers arrested three illegal VoIP trader from the flat after around two-hour long raid and seized VoIP equipment, mobile, CPU, and monitor.

OC said the arrestees re-registered around twenty SIM cards using a finger print.
