Govt aware about NSU, says Nahid
Dhaka: Observing the involvement of some North South University students in the two recent terror attacks, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday said the government is aware about the university.
The minister came up with the information while talking to reporters before a meeting with University Grants Commission Chairman Abdul Mannan at the Secretariat, reports UNB.
‘It’s not true we didn’t have any watch on the activities of the university. We had to take some actions over separate issues of the university. We had stayed the trustee board committee for a long time. We didn’t allow them to hold their convocation until completion of their process. We didn’t approve President’s presence there. As a result, they had to bring about a lot of changes,’ said Nahid.
Replying to a question, the Education Minister said, ‘There have been allegations of terror link against some teachers and students of the North South University. We’re aware about this university as we had several meetings and discussions with its authorities.’
Nahid said necessary steps have been taken and a teacher has been fired following a show-cause notice.
