Jhenaidah: Police recovered the body of a madrasa teacher at Horinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah early on Friday, eight days after he went missing.

The deceased, Idris Ali Panna, was a resident of the village of Raghunathpur in the upazila. He was also the former chief of Raghunathpur union Jamaat-e-Islam.

Idris Ali’s family said he was a teacher of Hossain Ali Alim Madrassa of the village. He was also a marriage recorder of Raghunathpur union’s ward 7 and Imam of Mohishgari Jame Mosque at adjacent Shoilakupa upazila.

Police said local people discovered Idris’s body at about 5:15am on Friday lying beside a road in Jarapukuria area of the upazila and called police. Police recovered the body at about 6:00am.

The Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of police Azbahar Ali (ASP) Sheikh said police recovered Idris Ali from the Jorapukuria area and took him to Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Primarily, it is believed that, Idris Ali was dead in a road accident. Police also recovered his damaged motorcycle from the spot.

The ASP said Idris Ali was wanted in at least eight cases including murder.

The Horinakundu Police Officer-in-charge Mahtab Uddin at about 8:30am told NTV Online that police received a death certificate of Idris Ali from the hospital authorities, which says he was killed in a road crash.

The OC said the body was kept at Horinakundu police station. It will be sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

However, Idris’s family said a group of people claiming themselves as law enforcers took away Idris Ali in front of Ramchandrapur Police post at Shoilokupa upazila on 4 August.

The family members also organised a press conference at local Press Club on 9 August demanding Idris Ali’s return.
