Pabna: Miscreants hacked a local Awami League leader to death in Dhopadaha union council at Sathia upazila in Pabna in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased is Mohammad Shah Jamal, aged around 35 years, a member of ward 3 of the union council. Shah Jamal is the general secretary of the same ward, also a resident of the village of Paiksha of the union.

The Sathia police said miscreants hacked Shah Jamal while he was returning his Paiksha residence from Dhulaura market at about 1:00am.

Being informed, police and local people went to the spot and recovered Shah Jamal in critical condition. Later, he was taken to Sathia Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

The Sathia police Officer-in-charge (OC) said rivalry over establishing supremacy and conflicts during the union council elections might be the reasons behind the murder.

The OC said body was taken to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
