3 kidnapped fishermen rescued in Lakshmipur

Lakshmipur: Three fishermen who were abducted by pirates on Thursday afternoon were rescued from the Meghna River in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur on early Friday.
The rescued fishermen are Babul, son of Ansar Ali of Sabuj village, Alauddin, son of Nurul Haque of Asal para village, and Murad Hossain, son of Badsha Miah of Seba village of the upazila.
Rafiq, second officer of Ramgati Police Station, said police conducted a drive in the area at about 3:00am and rescued three kidnapped fishermen out of five.
Quoting local fisherman, police said a gang of pirates numbering 7/8 attacked them in Char Abdullah Matha area in the river while they were catching fish in the afternoon and demanded toll from them.
As the fishermen refused to pay toll, the pirates stabbed two fishermen and abducted five of them. Later the pirates also demanded ransom from families of the fishermen.
They are continuing drive to rescue the other fishermen and arrest the pirates, added the police official.
