7 cops hurt in Sylhet ‘gunfight’

Sylhet: At least seven police officials were injured during a reported gun battle between the law enforcers and miscreants at Gowainghat in Sylhet in the early hours of Monday.

Police claimed to detain a miscreant, named Stalin from the spot. The law-enforcers also seized four firearms, 23 bullets, four machetes.

The Gowainghat Police Officer-in-charge Delwar Hossain said being tipped off police conducted a drive at resident of a Nerola Thenshong at Shangrampunji area near Jaflong in Gowainghat at about 3:30am.  Sensing the presence of police, miscreants opened fire to police and police also fired back.

Delwar Hossain said he was injured during the gunfight. The other injured police members are sub-inspector Rajib, Jamal, Nure Alam, Ashraf, constable Himel, and Nizam, said the OC.
