A local Awami League leader was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Kanchana union at Satkania upazila in Chittagong on Saturday night.

The deceased is identified as Jahirul Islam, 48, a leader of Kanchana union porishad Awami League.

Satkania Police Station Officer-in-charge Sharif Uddin Khandakar said miscreants fired gunshots at Jahirul at Bashirkhil area of Kanchana union at about 10:15pm.

Being informed, police went to the spot and whisked the injured off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
