Sylhet: A Sylhet court on Thursday sentenced two close aides of executed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) chief Shaykh Abdur Rahman to 30 years’ jail each in two cases.

The convicts are Majedul Islam Hridoy and Abdul Aziz alias Azizul Islam Hanif.

Additional Metropolitan Session Judge of the district Ibrahim Miah passed the order in the presence of the two accused in the cases filed under the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.

The court also fined them Tk one lakh each, in default, to suffer seven years more imprisonment.

On March 2, 2006, law enforcers arrested Shaykh Abdur Rahman and his two associates Majedul and Aziz, who had been working with Abdur Rahman for long, along with huge explosives from a house ‘Surjadighol Bari’ in the city's Shaplabag area after the JMB chief's surrender.

Shaikh Rahman was executed on March 30, 2007 after being convicted of masterminding the death of two Jhalakathi judges.

Talking to reporters, public prosecutor Masuk Ahmed said the court passed the order after examining the documents and 33 witnesses out of 43.
