Man arrested for stabbing Jhenaidah schoolgirl

Jhenaidah: Police arrested the main perpetrator in connection with the stabbing of a schoolgirl from Nirisinghopur village in Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah early on Wednesday.
The arrestee is Litu Hasan, a resident of Nagirat village in Shailkupa upazila. He used to live in Uposhohor Para in Jhenaidah.
The Jhenaidah Additional superintendent of police Azbahar Ali Sheikh said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Litu at about 3:30am.
Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested Litu’s sister and brother-in-law—Rupa and her husband Ruhul Amin—from Uposhohor Para in the district town in this connection.
Victim Puja Majumder’s father Bipul Majumder filed a case accusing five people with Sadar Police Station on Tuesday morning.
Puja, a Class-IX student of Jamila Khatun Girls School in odanmohanpara area of the town, was stabbed by a young man in the town on Monday reportedly for refusing to have a love affair with him.
The victim’s mother Shikha Majumdar claimed Litu Hossain used to harass her daughter on her way to and back from school as she refused his proposal.
On Monday evening, Litu stormed into the house of the schoolgirl and hacked her indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving her injured.
The injured was admitted to Sadar Hospital in serious condition.
Medical officer at the Sadar Hospital Dr Masuduzzaman said they found deep injury marks in her head.
