Gazipur: A suspected killer of Munni Akhter, a school girl of Kutubdia area of Kaliakaur upazila in Gazipur, allegedly committed suicide in Ratanpur area of the upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased is Arafat Hossain. His family members found him hanging at his aunt’s resident at Safipur’s Ratanpur in Kaliakaur upazila and called police.

Police recovered the body and sent to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the Kaliakaur police Sub-inspector Mosharraf Hossain.

Earlier, police recovered the body of Munni, a class VIII student of Chapair Bibi High School, from her room at their residence in Kutubdia on Tuesday.  

Shahidul Islam, Munni’s father, filed a murder case against Arafat with Kaliakaur police. However, Arafat fled from the area immediately after police recovered Munni’s body.

After recovering Munni’s body, Kaliakaur police Officer-in-charge (investigation) Rafiqul Islam said she was found hanging at her room. Later, the law-enforcers sent the body to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Rafiqul Islam said whether Munni committed suicide or killed by anyone will be known after getting the autopsy report.

However, Munni’s family said Arafat, son of a worker leader Ataur Sarkar, used to stalk Munni on her way to school. They claimed Arafat killed Munni as she refused love proposal.
