Rajshahi: A colleague of Akhter Jahan Jolly, a Rajshahi University’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department, who was found dead in her at the university campus on 9 September, was held over the mysterious death case.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Detective Branch held the teacher in Talaimari area of Rajshahi city on Thursday evening. The detainee is Atiqur Rahman Raja, assistant professor of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism in the university. He is also the assistant proctor of the university.

Confirming the arrest, the RMP Detective Branch Assistant Commissioner Al Amin, said Atiqur Rahman was taken to the police station after detaining in Talaimaria area on Thursday evening.

The assistant commissioner said Atiqur is now under his custody. He was taken to the police station for quizzing over the death of Akhter Jahan. The law-enforcers will decide whether Atiqur will be shown arrested after finishing the interrogation.

Earlier on September 9, Akhter Jahan, in her forties, an associate professor of of the university, was found dead in her room at the teachers' residential block, Jubery Bhaban, on the campus.

A suicidal note was also found in her room.

Kamrul Hasan, brother of the teacher, filed a case the following day without mentioning the name of anyone for provoking her to commit suicide.
