Rajshahi BNP leader commits suicide
Rajshahi: Rajshahi district BNP vice-president Khandaker Mainul Islam has reportedly committed suicide with a gun in his house at the Fire Service crossing area in the city of Rajshahi.
Family said fire fighters from the neighbouring Fire Service office had rushed into the house hearing the incident and took Mainul to the city’s medical college hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Doctors in the hospital, however, declared him dead after necessary examinations.
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s emergency ward doctor Ariful Islam said Mainul Islam had died before he was taken to the hospital. Blood oozed from his both ears, said the doctor. The exact reason behind his death is tough to be ascertained without post-mortem examination, he added.
Boalia Model Police Station officer-in-charge Shahadat Hossain said the bullet ripped through his head from right to left.
He said it is primarily thought that he had used his licenced pistol in committing suicide.
Mainul Islam, also a well-known contractor, was suffering from extreme mental stress since he has been experiencing great loss in his business and was burdened with substantial debts, said his family.
