10 hurt in Narsingdi AL factional clash
Narsingdi: At least 10 people were injured as two factions of Awami League clashed in Nilaksha union of Raipura upazila on Sunday flouting Section 144.
Quoting locals, Saidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Detective Branch of police, said lawmaker Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju from Raipura, Raipura upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman along with other local leaders of Awami League went to Nilaksha union around afternoon to seek votes for Rajib Ahmed, member candidate in the district council polls.
As the motorcade of lawmaker, escorted by law enforcers and around 200 AL activists astride100 motorcycles, reached the union, the followers of Abdul Haque, former chairman of the union and an AL leader, also gathered there, reports news agency UNB.
Later, both groups locked into a fierce clash which spilled over into 6/7 villages of the union, leaving at least 10 people injured.
At least 10 houses were also torched at Kauyabari, Shahir Bari and Amirabad villages during the melee.
Haque’s supporters also confined the MP to the union council complex for an hour.
The local administration imposed the Section 144 at three places of Raipura upazila on November 18 following a clash between two factions of Awami League.
