President urges universities to increase research activities
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged the country's universities to increase their research activities so that students can keep pace with the global competition.
The President made the remarks when a delegation of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) led by its Vice Chancellor Pro Dr Md Aminul Haque Bhuyan made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the VC apprised the President of various activities of the university, including development projects.
The delegation informed the President that the university authorities have made Bangla, English and computer courses compulsory for all students of the university.
They invited the President to attend the third convocation of the SUST to be held next year.
President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.
The VC highlighted various problems of the university and sought the President's cooperation in solving those.
Abdul Hamid suggested the delegation to expedite the overall monitoring of the university activities.
Secretaries concerned to the President Office were present.
