Nasirnagar attack: Court denies bail to Rasraj
Brahmanbaria: A Brahmanbaria court on Tuesday denied bail to Rasraj Das who was detained in connection with the posting of a derogatory picture of holy Kaaba on the Facebook, leading to the attacks on the Hindu community at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria.
District and Session’s Judge Ismail Hossain passed the order rejecting his bail petition.
The court also fixed January 16 for the next hearing.
Meanwhile, police sought a seven-day remand for Abdul Ahad, former joint secretary of upazila AL and former chairman of sadar union. The hearing on his remand petition is likely to be held on January 10.
On the other hand, police released Uttam Kumar Das, personal secretary of Haripur Union Chairman Dewan Atiqur Rahman Akhi, and Haripur UP secretary Monoronjon Debnath, who were arrested in connection with the incident on Monday, on bond on Tuesday.
On October 29, Rasraj Das allegedly doctored a picture of Makkah pasting the image of Hindi god Shiva on it and uploaded the picture on Facebook.
Agitated by the Facebook post hurting the religious sentiment of the Muslims, unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised over 100 houses in the upazila on October 30.
Later, two cases were filed against 2,400 unidentified people in this connection.
Police arrested Rasraj Das, son of Jagannath Das from Harinberh village under Haripur Union Parishad, immediately after the allegation of blasphemy had surfaced against him.
