Chandpur: Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in the Duggi area of Matlab upazila in Chandpur in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased are Majid, age around 47 years, a resident of North Matlab, and Habu, in his thirties, a resident of Lakshmipur.

Police claimed both of them were robbers.

The North Matlab police Officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain said being tipped off that a gang of around 10 robbers were preparing for robbery at Duggi area of North Matlab, police went to the spot. Sensing the presence of police, the suspected robbers opened fire to them at about 3:30am, police also fired back, which triggered a gunfight between them. Majid and Habu died on the spot.

However, the other suspected robbers managed to escape the scene, said the OC.
