AL‐BNP clash leaves several injured in Barisal

Barisal: Several people were injured as some Chhatra League and Juba League activists clashed with BNP men in front of BNP office in the district town on Thursday.

Witnesses said local BNP leaders and activists thronged the party office on Sadar road in the town to bring out a procession with black flags, marking the third anniversary of the 10th parliamentary elections as ‘democracy killing day.’

At one stage, some Sramik League, Juba League and Chhatra League activist attacked the BNP men with bamboo sticks, leaving several people injured at noon. They also drove them out of the office.

Later, police dispersed them to bring the situation under control.

BNP city unit acting general secretary Abul Kalam Shaheen told reporters that their 50 activists were injured in the attack by the ruling party men. They were given first aid, he said.

Kotwali Model police station officer‐in‐charge Awlad Hossian said police brought the situation under control.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, led by convenor of its district unit Saiful Isalm, brought out a protest procession in the town soon after the incident
