Gazipur: Suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation MA Mannan was released on bail from Kashimpur jail on Friday afternoon.

Prosanta Kumar Bala, jail super of Kashimpur Jail Part-1, said he walked out of the jail at about 1:00pm after papers of his bail order reached the jail on Thursday night.

Advocate Shahiduzzaman, BNP leader Bashir Ahmmed Bacchu, councilor Tanvir Ahmed and other BNP leaders received him at the jail gate.

On 16 April, 2016, Mannan was shifted to the part-1 of the jail.

On 24 November, 2016, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that had granted bail to suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation MA Mannan in a corruption case clearing the way of his walk out of jail.

Mannan, also the advisor of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was arrested from his Baridhara residence in the capital on 11 February of 2015 in a case filed for hurling petrol bombs on a passenger bus in Gazipur. Later he was released in bail on 2 March. After his release, the law enforcers rearrested him 15 April, 2016.

Besides, some two dozens of cases were filed against the BNP leader.
