Jamaat leader held in Gaibandha
Gaibandha: Police in a drive arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, who was wanted in several cases, from Phulchhari upazila headquarters on Tuesday.
The arrestee was Yusuf Ali, 57, ameer of Phulchhari upazila unit Jamaat.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Yusuf Ali from a shop at about 12:00pm, said Gaibandha Superintendent of Police Ashraful Islam.
The Jamaat leader was wanted in five cases, including one filed for killing four policemen in Sundarganj, he said.
Four policemen were killed in an attack on the Bamandanga police camp on February 28, 2013 over the verdict of war criminal Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
