Tangail: A Tangail court on Sunday sentenced 15 people to life term imprisonment for killing a man over land dispute in 2006.

The lifers are—Imtiaz Mia, Shabar Khan, Babul Mia, Dulal Hossain, Jinnat Mia, Bisu Mia, Ashraf Ali, Ferdous Hossain, Pervez Hossain, Liton Mia, Shahadat Hossain, Anwar Hossain, Nani Mia, Delwar Mia and Mansub Ali.

According to the prosecution, Tofazzel Hossain, son of Khabir Uddin of Hilora village in Mirzapur upazila, was killed in an attack by the convicts following enmity over the ownership of a piece of land on May 22, 2006.

Victim’s family filed a case against 21 people.

After examining the records and witnesses, Special Sessions Judge Waheduzzaman Shikdar handed down the verdict acquitting eight other accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
