14-Party for having global recognition for Genocide Day
Dhaka: The Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Sunday urged the government to take steps for global recognition of March 25 as Genocide Day.
A day after parliament unanimously adopted a resolution recognising March 25 as the Genocide Day, 14-party spokesman Mohammad Nasim came up with the call at a press conference at Awami League President’s Dhanmondi political office after a meeting of the alliance.
The alliance also congratulated the Prime Minister and all MPs for adopting the resolution in this regard.
“The 14-party in its last meeting requested the MPs to recognise the March 25 as the mass-killing day…we now call upon the Foreign Minister and other concerned to take masseurs for getting international recognition of the day,” Nasim said.
He said the 14-party will centrally observe the day with due respect, commemorating the brutality carried out by Pakistani Army on the unarmed Bengalis on the black night of March 25, 1971.
Besides, the alliance will mark the day at all districts and upazilas with various programmes.
Nasim, also the Health and Family Welfare Minister, said the meeting decided that the 14-party will work for Awami League candidates in Sunamganj-2 by-polls and Comilla City Corporation polls billed for March 30.
He also said the 14-party leaders will also carry out electioneering in favour of the two candidates to ensure their victories.
