Cabinet okays draft act to bring discipline in land management
Dhaka: The Cabinet on Monday approved the draft of Urban and Zone Planning Act aimed at bringing discipline in land management and restrict misuse of land in the country.
The cabinet gave the approval in principle at its regular weekly meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said that there will be a high powered 27-member advisory council with the Housing Minister as its chief. This council will give policy support to various institutions that are handling land management in the country at present.
The cabinet secretary said a 25-member executive council will also be constituted with the Housing Secretary in the chair.
He said there is a provision of five years imprisonment with fine of Tk 50 lakh as the highest punishment for violating the law.
