Mufti Hannan to get 7 days for seeking mercy: IG Prison

Gazipur: Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin on Thursday said Harkat‐ul‐Jihad (Huji) chief Mufti Abdul Hannan will get seven days to seek presidential clemency.
The IG Prison came up with the information while talking to reporters after attending a progamme of prison guards on completion of their training course at Kashimpur Jail.
The 7‐day countdown started on Wednesday, he said.
Earlier, on Wednesday, a special tribunal issued death warrants for Harkat‐ul‐Jihad ﴾Huji﴿ chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and two others condemned to death in a case filed over the grenade attack on ex‐British envoy to Bangladesh Anwar Choudhury in 2004.
On 19 March, the Appellate Division upheld the death sentence of Mufti Hannan, Ripon and Bipul the hearing of the review petition filed by the three death row convicts. It released the full text of its verdict on 21 March.
