Sheikh Hasina greets Turkish President Erdogan
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on winning the mandate of this country's people in favour of the constitutional amendment ushering in the Executive Presidential System.
In a congratulatory letter sent to the Turkish President on Friday, the Prime Minister said, "It's with great pleasure that I, on behalf of my people and my the government, take this opportunity to congratulate you on winning the verdict of the Turkish people in favour of constitutional amendment ushering in the Executive Presidential System."
She said the massive turnout in the referendum and the support demonstrate the trust and confidence of Turkish people in Erdogan's leadership.
"I sincerely hope that we would be able to take our two countries' existing brotherly relations to a new height for the mutual benefits of our people in the days to come, particularly through focusing on concrete areas of cooperation in economic, commercial, technological, educational, defense and cultural fields," she added.
Hasina also wished the Turkish President and his family good health, long life and happiness, and the brotherly people of Turkey continued peace, progress and prosperity. "Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration," she added.
Earlier on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan got victory in a referendum that would grant him vast new powers as the country's unrivaled head of state, strengthening his influence over the judiciary and his authority over the parliament and extending his divisive tenure in office.
