The body of Maldivian MBBS student Raudha Athif, who was found dead at a dormitory of Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College Hospital on 29 March, was exhumed on Monday morning for a fresh post-mortem.

The model’s body was unearthed from Rajshahi city’s Hetem Khan Graveyard at about 10:00am.

Executive Magistrate Raktim Chowdhury, Raudha’s father Mohammad Athif, CID additional superintendent of police (SP) Shafi Iqbal, and investigation officer inspector Asmaul Haque were present during the exhumation.

Earlier, on 18 April, Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Judge Mahbubur Rahman issued an order asking to exhume the body for a second autopsy after the investigation officer assigned to the case Inspector (CID) Asmaul Hoque filed a petition seeking a court order to this effect.

The court also asked the Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi to take necessary steps in this regard and exhume the body in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner and the investigation officer of the case.

On 29 March, police recovered the body of Raudha, a student of MBBS second year of Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College Hospital, from a female hostel.

The medical college authorities filed an unnatural death case with Shah Makhdum Police Station on that day.

The following day, a three-member physician committee of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital conducted an autopsy on the body of Raudha and reported that the Maldivian student committed suicide.

Later, two police officials of Maldives came to Bangladesh and investigated the case.

On April 10, Raudha's father Dr Mohammad Athif filed a murder case with a Rajshahi court against the victim's coursemate Sirat Parveen Mahmud, in her twenties, alleging that Raudha was strangled to death.

Later, the case was transferred to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 13 April.
