Alam, in his thirties, along with his two-year-old child was seen standing outside of a Rohingya refugee camp at Balukhali in Cox’s Bazar, where a more than 300,000 Rohingyas have taken shelter after fleeing their country Myanmar.

The father of three sons and two daughters came to Bangladesh on 7 September.

Alam rushed from his house when the Myanmar military and their staffs made announcement to leave the country and local Buddhist people set their houses on fire. In a hurry to save his own life, Alam forgot to bring out his two-year-old child, Aziz with him. Later, he remembered and went back to house which in the meantime was engulfed by fire. Luckily, Alam managed to rescue his beloved son. However, the back side and legs of Aziz was burnt in the fire.

Alam, who was a fisherman in Myanmar, said, ‘After rescuing Aziz from the fire, I ran to Bangladesh with life. Aziz received treatment in Bangladesh, his condition is improving. Still, he is now very weak and ill as he did not get proper food.’

Alam said truck and microbuses carrying relief goods are coming here frequently. He collects food from the volunteers with his son, Aziz. Most of the time, they get some biscuits or breads. Aziz sleeps on his father’s arm, and wakes up when his father runs to collect food.
