Kushtia: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Chadagara on the Kushtia-Rajbari Highway early on Friday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Tipped off that a gang of robbers put barricade on the highway for robbery, a joint team of Detective Branch and police went there at the dead end of the night, said officer-in-charge Sabbirul Islam of Kushtia DB police.

Sensing their presence, robbers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate.

One of the robbers sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight and doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital. Four cops also sustained injuries during the gunfight.

Police, however, recovered a one-shutter gun, two pipe guns, one chopper, a knife, a Chinese machete, a bullet of shutter gun and two bullets of pipe gun from the spot.
