Dhaka: A Dhaka Court on Monday sentenced two people to death and four others to life imprisonment for killing Jatiya Andha Sangstha Secretary General Khalilur Rahman in 2011.

The condemned convicts are Ramjan Ali alias Ramjan and Md Tipu Miah while the lifers are Jahidul Islam, Shahed Mostafa, Mohammad Minhajuddin and Hasanur Rahman. Of them, Ramjan and Hasanur were tried in absentia.

On January 1, 2011, Khalilur Rahman was shot to death by his rivals at a house of Janata Housing in Mirpur-1 of Dhaka.

Victim’s wife Hasina Parvin filed a case with Mirpur Police Station against 10 people the following day.

On July 31, 2013, the Detective Branch of police submitted a chargesheet against all the 10 accused. The court framed charge against them on May 10, 2015.

After examining the records and witnesses, judge of the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 Abdur Rahman Sardar pronounced the verdict acquitting four other accused—Ayub Ali, Nurul Alam Siddique, Yakub Ali and Sohag Hossain Howlader—as the allegation brought against them could not be proved.
