Sylhet: Faizul Hasan alias Shafiqur on Sunday gave confessional statement before a magistrate court here in a case over the attack on noted author and physicist Dr Mohammad Zafar Iqbal.

Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Kumar recorded his statement under section 164 when Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced Faizul before the court after expiry of his 10-day remand.

Earlier on March 8, Faizul was placed on a 10-day remand.

Faizul Hasan swooped on Prof Zafar Iqbal and stabbed him with a knife at the Mukta Mancha at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology during a celebration programme, ‘Robofight,’ of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department on March 3.
