Man gets death penalty for killing auto-rickshaw driver in Gazipur

Gazipur: A Gazipur court on Sunday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing the driver of an auto-rickshaw at Gozari forest in Hatiyab area of Gazipur in 2013.

The court fined the condemned convict, Md Nayeem alias Nayeem, 27, son of Md Abdul Gafur of Chatar (ATI Gate) area of the city corporation,  Tk 10,000.

The court also sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment in the case filed another section over the killing of the auto-rickshaw driver.

It also acquitted three others – Mohammad Hasan Imam Rabbi, in his twenties, Mohammad Jahirul Islam alias Farhad, in his twenties, and Md Raihan Uddin alias Nirab, around 21 years old—as allegations brought against them could not be proved.

According to prosecution, Nayeem and three others hired the auto-rickshaw of Julhas Mollah from Satar area to go to Hatiyab area on November 28, 2013.

Then, Julhas along with his auto-rickshaw went missing and later his body was found at Gozari forest in Hatiyab area in the evening.

On November 29, Chunnu Mollah, father of Julhas, filed a case accusing the four people with Joydebpur Police Station.

Khondaker Jahangir Kabir, inspection of Criminal Investigation Department, submitted charge sheet on February 29, 2016.

After examining all the records and nine witnesses, Gazipur District and Sessions Judge MM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict.
