Telugu film actress Sri Reddy was detained on Saturday by police after she held a semi-nude protest outside the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Claiming that sexual exploitation of women is common in Telugu film industry, also known as Tollywood, Sri Reddy had been making statements on social media, and giving interviews to local TV channels, accusing top directors, producers and male actors of taking advantage of young actresses seeking work in the industry.

She said that she was not being given roles in films because she refused to give in to demands of some people in the industry, reports the Indian Express.

Sri Reddy also claimed that the Telugu origin actresses were not getting enough work in Telugu films.

On Saturday morning, she said that because no one in the film industry was reacting to her demands that local actresses should also get enough work, she would stage a nude protest outside the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce building.

However, after she took off her shirt, police intervened and detained her.
