A first year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department of Islamic University in Kushtia allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at a private hostel at Sheikhpara bazar in Shoilakupa upazila of Jhenaidah on Tuesday night.

The deceased is Saifuzzaman Khan Sayem, around 19 years old, from Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur.

Witnesses said finding the door of Sayem’s room closed from inside, the other students of the hostel called him several time from outside in the night.

As no response was came out despite of repeated attempts, the students entered his room breaking open the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan.

They informed the matter to police and the university authorities. Later, police along with the university’s proctorial body rushed to the spot and recovered Sayem’s body.

It was known through a letter recovered from the victim’s room that complexity in love affair was the reason behind his suicide.
