Rajshahi: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi early on Friday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Tipped off that some robbers were preparing to commit robberies, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive at Hazir Dhalan Beel around 12:30am, said deputy commander of RAB-5, Major Ashraful Islam.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on them prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

After a brief gunfight, the RAB members arrested a robber as he suffered bullet wounds while the others managed to flee.

Later, he was taken to Charghat Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Four RAB members were injured in the incident.

One firearm and some sharp weapons and bullets were recovered from the spot.
