Magistrate appointed to look into Ekramul’s death: Home Minister
Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said that a magistrate has been appointed to look into the ‘shady circumstances’ that led to the death of Teknaf municipal ward councillor Ekramul Haque.
He also said that the magistrate will investigate and then submit a report based on his findings, after which appropriate steps will be taken by his ministry.
Kamal added that if anyone intentionally caused his death, then legal measures would be taken against that person.
There has been media outcry over killing of Ekramul in ‘shady circumstances’ during the ongoing war on drugs. Victim’s family members also came up with strong evidences that differ with the RAB’s official statement as to how Ekramul had died on May 26.
‘Such investigations are standard procedure if allegations of cold-blooded murders arise,’ the minister said, ‘this incident will similarly be looked into and is already underway.’
Regarding the allegations made by Ekramul’s family, the minister said that the family did not lodge any formal complaint challenging the official statement yet.
