AL and BNP promise to develop city ahead of BCC polls
As the Barishal City Corporation (BCC) polls is drawing near, leaders from both Awami League (AL) and BNP pledged to solve citizens’ problems in a round table dialogue on Thursday.
Ahead of the upcoming BCC polls Democracy International (DI), an election monitoring international organisation, arranged the dialogue on ’Citizen Priorities in Barishal City Corporation’ at a hotel in Barishal, reports the UNB.
The participants placed some recommendations there including developing infrastructure, maintaining quality roads, adequate drainage, modern waste disposal system, parking facilities, increasing pedestrians’ facilities and public toilets for men and women.
The participants also discussed about solving water logging problems, developing recreational facilities, creating a women-friendly city and curbing illegal trade down.
Political leaders from both parties acknowledged the issues and described their parties’ previous successes and the plans of their party nominated mayoral candidates to resolve community issues in Barishal.
Awami League and BNP leaders also pledged to ensure a peaceful environment before and after the election.
At least 80 local citizen representatives, political leaders, and journalists attended there including the president of Barishal City Awami League, Advocate Golam Abbas Chowdhury Dulal, Senior Vice President of Barishal City Awami League Advocate Afzalul Karim, Central Organizing Secretary of BNP Advocate Bilkis Jahan Shereen, President of Barishal North District BNP, Mr. Mejba Uddin Farhad, in a dialogue with citizens of Barishal City.
