‘Naked rigging’ in city polls got exposed: BNP
Dhaka: Bringing various allegations of irregularities, including driving out of its polling agents and stuffing ballot boxes, BNP on Monday said the ‘naked vote rigging by the ruling party has got exposed in Barishal, Sylhet and Rajshahi city corporations.
‘We have been talking about the government’s blueprint over the elections in the three cities since the beginning of the electioneering, and it has got exposed nakedly today,’ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, reports the UNB.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said the Election Commission’s inaction has encouraged the ruling party men for indulging in the vote rigging.
The BNP leader said the ruling party men with the help of law enforcers started capturing polling stations, driving out BNP candidates’ polling agents from polling centres, and stuffing ballot boxes at many centres in the three cities since morning.
He said though the elections are being held amid various irregularities, the Election Commission will come up with false statements after the voting to appease the government.
‘The Election Commission has now become a parasite by giving up its power and authority. We think the Commission itself is now an opponent of fair polls,’ Rizvi added.
The BNP leader also said there will be no fair and credible election in the country as long as Awami League remains power.
