Laxmipur: Police arrested a young man for raping a schoolgirl at Ramanandi village in Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

A case was also filed against the rapist, Yousuf Hossain, with Sadar Police Station on Monday.

Police said Yousuf entered the house of the victim, a Class-X student, at night and raped her gagging her mouth with a piece of cloth.

At one stage, hearing victim’s screams, neighbours rushed in and caught Yousuf.

Later, he was handed over to police, said the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Medical Officer of Sadar Hospital Dr Anwar Hossain said they found the evidence of rape after examining the girl.
