Traffic Week extended by 3 days
Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia on Saturday announced that the ongoing Traffic Week will be extended by three more days to reinforce discipline on roads and highways.
Asaduzzaman Mia came up with information at a press briefing at DMP media centre.
‘Stern actions will be taken against those who will violate traffic rules. If the proposed Road Transport law approved by the Cabinet recently is implemented properly, the road safety will improve much,’ he said.
Only traffic rules will not be able to ensure discipline on the road as it requires assistance from the city dwellers, Asaduzzaman Mia said.
‘In many developed countries, 98 percent people obey traffic rules while in our country at least 90 percent people violate traffic rules. So, implementation of laws is very difficult here,’ he said.
On August 5, the DMP commissioner announced to observe Traffic Week across the country amid the student movement over a nine-point demand, including ensuring safety on roads and justice for the two students who were killed in a road accident in the capital, and resignation of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan.
