One HC bench member feels embarrassed to hear Shahidul’s bail plea
Dhaka: One judge of a two-member High Court bench on Tuesday felt embarrassed to hear a bail petition filed by photographer Shahidul Alam arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act.
Now, the bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Khandaker Dilurujjaman forwarded the petition to the Chief Justice for a decision, reports the UNB.
The High Court bench, however, did not disclose the name of the judge who felt embarrassed and the reason why he felt embarrassed to hear the bail petition.
According to rules, the Chief Justice will now form a new bench to hear the petition, said Barrister Joytirmoy Barua, the counsel for Shahidul Alam, managing director of Drik Gallery.
On Monday, the HC bench fixed today (Tuesday) to hear the plea following a time-petition filed by Deputy Attorney General Arbinda Kumar Roy.
On August 29 last, the High Court set September 3 to hear the bail petition of Shahidul Alam in the case.
Shahidul’s lawyer Barrister Sarah Hossain filed the bail petition on August 28.
Detectives arrested Shahidul Alam from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and the case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station on August 6. He was also placed on a seven-day remand in the case.
Police claimed that he spread propaganda through his Facebook account during the student movement demanding safe roads.
