Cumilla court rejects Khaleda Zia’s bail plea in murder case

Cumilla: A court here on Wednesday rejected the bail petition of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a murder case filed over the deaths of eight people in an arson attack here in 2015.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Biplob Debnath passed the order.

Public prosecutor advocate Mostafizur Rahman represented the state while advocate Kaiyum Haque stood for Khaleda, reports the UNB.

Kaiyum Haque said as the court rejected the bail plea of Khaleda Zia they would file bail petition with the High Court.

Earlier on September 20, acting judge Golam Mahbub Khan, Senior Judicial Magistrate court-5 fixed September 30 for hearing on a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the murder case. When the prosecution filed a time petition the court fixed October 3 for hearing.

Eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured in a petrol bomb attack on a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance’s movement on February 3, 2015.
