Khulna: A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced nine people to life term imprisonment for killing a Jashore district unit Jubo Dal leader in 2013.

The lifers are Tariqul Islam, son of late Shafi Mia, Prince alias Bihari Prince, son of Belayet Hossain, Zahidul Islam, son of Moslem Uddin, Rabiul Sheikh, son of Majobor Sheikh, Sajal, son of Zahidur Rahman, Tutul Gazi, son of Siddiqur Rahman, Foysal Gazi, son of Firoz Ali, Shahidul Islam Khan Saidul, son of Billal Khan and Shahidul Islam, son of Abdur Razzak of Jashore district.

Of them, Saidul, Shahidul, Prince, Zahidul and Rabiul tried in absentia, reports the UNB.

The tribunal also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer, one year more in rigorous punishment.

According to the prosecution, Kabir Hossain Palash, vice-president of Jashore unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, was gunned down by the convicts while he was sitting at a tea stall at Eidgah Intersection in the Jashore district town on December 9, 2013.

The victim’s sister Farhana Yeasmin filed a case against 13 people. Police submitted charge-sheet against eleven people in the case.

After examining records and witnesses Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge AM Rab Hawladar handed down the verdict while acquitting two others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
