Murder accused killed in Barishal ‘gunfight’
Barishal: A man accused in six murder cases was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Fultola area of Ujirpur upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Robiul Alam, 35, a resident of Madaripur district town, reports the UNB.
Saiful Islam, superintendent of Barishal Police, said a team of police arrested Robiul from Madaripur district on Monday night in a case filed for killing Jalla union chairman Bishwajit Gosh Nantu.
After gleaning information in primary interrogation, a team of police along with Rabiul conducted a drive in the area to recover arms.
When the team reached there, his cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight that left Rabiul injured with bullet.
Later, he was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered a firearm and several sharp weapons from the spot.
Jalla UP chairman Nantu was gunned down by miscreants at Karfa Bazar in the upazia on September 21.
