Ctg ‘rape victim’ gives birth in PEC exam centre
Chattogram: A 13-year-old girl, who was reportedly gang-raped by a neighbour and his cohorts around 10 months back, gave birth to a baby boy while appearing at the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination at a centre in Banskhali upazila on Sunday.
Nahida Akhther, in-charge of maternity ward at Banskhali Upazila Health Complex, said the fifth grader went into labour around 10:30am as she sat for her math exam at Banskhali Govt Model Primary School centre, reports the UNB.
She was immediately taken to a nearby room and the upazila hospital was informed about it. Nurse in-charge of the hospital Shahana Akhter rushed to the exam centre and assisted the girl in delivering the baby.
Later, both the mother and the newborn were taken to the hospital. Both were doing fine.
Officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station Kamal Uddin said Nezam Uddin, a distant uncle of the victim, along with his associates raped the girl in turns around 10 months back.
But the girl did not disclose the matter to her family, he said, adding that seeing her physical change, the family members thought she might have had a tumour in the abdomen.
Meanwhile, Nezam turned up at the hospital in the afternoon and claimed him as the father of the newborn.
Later, police arrested him, the OC said.
