Dhaka: A legal notice has been served on the government urging it to stop private practices by the physicians of government hospitals, reports the UNB.

Advocate Abdus Sattar Palwan, a Supreme Court lawyer, sent the notice by post on Tuesday.

According to the notice, government doctors’ practice at private hospitals and clinic is a professional misconduct and a crime as per the law. ‘So, the physicians of government hospitals have to stop the private practice for ensuring medical services to the people as well as for protecting their constitutional rights.’

Health secretary, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), President of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council and President of Bangladesh Medical Association have been asked to take steps within 24 hours of receiving the legal notice.

The lawyer said he will take recourse to law if any initiative is not taken within the period.

Babul Hossain, 40, who was suffering from cardiac problem, died at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital due to negligence of doctors as duty doctor Bhabani Prasad Roy was absent at that time. Bhabani Prasad was at his chamber in Dakkhin Temuhani of the district at that time.

A report titled ‘Physician at his chamber, patient dies at hospital’ was published in national dailies and online portals on January 28 and January 29.
