500 mmcfd LNG supply beings from Chattogram today
Chattogram: The supply of 500 mmcfd Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into the national grid will start from here on Saturday, reports the UNB.
Petrobangla officials expressed hope that the supply of 500 mmcfd (million cubic feet per day) LNG gas will bring a positive impact on country’s gas sector.
Along with the increased gas flow, fertilizer and electricity production will also be increased not only in Chattogram but also in Dhaka, they said.
A senior Petrobangla official said earlier the supply of 500 mmcfd LNG was started in August on a pilot basis. But the gas could not be supplied fully due to technical glitches.
Besides, the supply was hampered as a consignment of gas did not reach here from Oman on time.
Later, highest 330mmcfd gas was supplied per day in the last six months, said Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited managing director Khair Ahmed Majumder.
As a consignment of imported LNG from Qatar reached here recently, the authorities decided to start supply 500 mmsf LNG gas from Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) set up at Moheshkhali .
Keeping 320-30 mmcfd for Chattogram, the rest gas will be supplied to Dhaka, said the official.
