Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.

Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Monday claimed that the 11th national election was held in such a credible manner that it can be put on record, reports the UNB.

‘The 11th parliamentary polls were held in such a free and fair environment that its scenario can be kept in the record. I can claim it publicly. There’s no doubt about it,’ he said.

The CEC was addressing a law-and-order coordination meeting of the Election Commission over the by-elections to Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.

The CEC hailed the law enforcement agencies for their role in arranging the 2018 general election in a fair manner.

He asked the law enforcement agencies to keep the overall law-and-order situation in the city election under control.

Nurul Huda said the law enforcers will have to be careful so that the elections are not questionable and that these are free and credible ones.

He said the law enforcers must keep eyes so that the law-and-order situation does not deteriorate following huge councillor candidates in the DNCC and DSCC by-elections.

The elections to the DNCC mayoral post and councillor posts in 18 DNCC new wards and 18 DSCC new wards will be held on February 28.

Four election commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, top officials from law enforcement agencies, including police, Rab and BGB, were present at the meeting.
